Disruption of the Aspergillus fumigatus ECM33 homologue results in rapid conidial germination, antifungal resistance and hypervirulence.
The ECM33/SPS2 family of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins plays an important role in maintaining fungal cell wall integrity and virulence. However, the precise molecular role of these proteins is unknown. In this work, AfuEcm33, the gene encoding the ECM33 homologue in the important pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus, has been cloned and its function analysed. It is shown tha...
متن کاملConidial germination in Scedosporium apiospermum, S. aurantiacum, S. minutisporum and Lomentospora prolificans: influence of growth conditions and antifungal susceptibility profiles
In the present study, we have investigated some growth conditions capable of inducing the conidial germination in Scedosporium apiospermum, S. aurantiacum, S. minutisporum and Lomentospora prolificans. Germination in Sabouraud medium (pH 7.0, 37ºC, 5% CO2) showed to be a typically time-dependent event, reaching ~75% in S. minutisporum and > 90% in S. apiospermum, S. aurantiacum and L. prolifica...

Dermatophytes are fungi that can cause infections of the skin, hair, and nails due to their ability to utilize keratin. The organisms colonize the keratin tissues [1] and inflammation is caused by host response to metabolic by-products. The dermatophytes are included in three fungal genera viz,:1. Epidermophyton: This genus consists of 2 species, one of which is a pathogen 2. Microsporum: There...
متن کاملA mitogen-activated protein kinase that senses nitrogen regulates conidial germination and growth in Aspergillus fumigatus.
We show that the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway that responds to osmotic stress in Aspergillus fumigatus is also involved in nutritional sensing. This MAP kinase regulates conidial germination in response to the nitrogen source and is activated upon starvation for either carbon or nitrogen during vegetative growth.
متن کاملA p21-Activated Kinase Is Required for Conidial Germination in Penicillium marneffei
Asexual spores (conidia) are the infectious propagules of many pathogenic fungi, and the capacity to sense the host environment and trigger conidial germination is a key pathogenicity determinant. Germination of conidia requires the de novo establishment of a polarised growth axis and consequent germ tube extension. The molecular mechanisms that control polarisation during germination are poorl...
